Last winter during Art Basel Miami Beach, the Gallery at Windsor in Vero Beach, Florida, held an exhibition of Beatriz Milhazes’s work. The show marked the beginning of a three-year collaboration with London’s Whitechapel Gallery. Hilary Weston, the former lieutenant governor of Ontario, Canada, is not only the woman behind the gallery, but the woman behind the community of Windsor, which she created with her husband, Galen. In the 1980's, when her children were young, Hilary M. Weston took them on school breaks to the Bahamas. Places like Eleuthera, the gated community of Lyford Cay, and small island where they still own property, were highlights of the school year.
"We were going to build in the Bahamas but we set out to find a place in south Floirda instead," Weston recalls of a change in mindset. "We found Vero Beach through my father-in-law Garfield. He discovered Vero was the first place in this part of Florida where people came seeking the sun. We just loved the undisturbed town as we saw it back then." By Linda Marx

Whitechapel Gallery is undoubtedly one of London's premier contemporary art galleries. It is often praised for its ability to engage the disparate population from the local area, including many deprived youngters. Recently, a fascinating new Anglo-North American collaboration was announced that will see this hip gallery cooperate with art philanthropist Hilary M.
