2022 Windsor Charity Polo Cup Names Dr. Johnson Hagood as Official Commemorative Poster Artist

    September 10, 2021 | Windsor Florida |

Windsor is pleased to announce Dr. Johnson Hagood as its Official Commemorative Poster Artist for the 2022 Windsor Charity Polo Cup.

An accomplished artist, Dr. Hagood paints with oils and acrylics in a vibrant color palette using both brush and palette knife. He is self-taught, having painted with oils since childhood. With a steady hand and artistic talent, it is no surprise that Dr. Hagood is also a highly skilled restorative and cosmetic dentist with a thriving practice in Vero Beach.

Painting in a distinctive impressionistic style, Hagood’s subjects include serene natural landscapes, still life, to high energy works depicting polo ponies in action. His paintings have a sense of timelessness in nature, as if he has captured the very moment nature has reached the pinnacle of its beauty.

Hagood says his style is influenced by some of the acclaimed impressionist artists such as Matisse, Barnard and Monet. Most recently, he has been inspired by the contemporary works of French artist Jean Claude Roy and Dutch artist Frits Van Eeden, implementing more abstract applications to some of his latest works. Dr. Hagood’s work can be found on display at the Artists Guild Gallery in Vero Beach’s Historic Downtown Arts District.

“Over the last few years, I have become very interested in painting scenes from the thrilling sport of polo and particularly the Windsor Charity Polo Cup,” Dr. Hagood stated. “The featured painting was inspired by several of the photos television personality John Walsh – who has been involved in the event since its inception – provided me. I feel truly blessed to play a part in the 2022 Polo Cup.”

Titled The Match, the 30” x 30” acrylic painting captures the excitement and intensity of the sport of polo. The piece will be auctioned off at the charity event luncheon, with silent bids beginning at the Players Cocktail Reception on Friday, February 18, 2022, the evening before the polo match.

A native of North Carolina, Dr. Hagood earned a B.S. degree in Biology from East Carolina University and a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. His professional achievements are numerous, making him one of the highest credentialed dentists in the United States.

“Dr. Hagood has been a supporter of the Windsor Charity Polo Cup for many years,” said Jane Smalley, Marketing Director for Windsor. “We were thrilled when he offered to donate this beautiful work inspired by our biennial polo match and expect it to be a very popular auction item.”

Dr. Hagood will attend the February event and be on hand to sign posters. He will also hold a pop-up gallery in the event’s Specialty Retail Village showcasing a selection of his works available for purchase. A percentage of all sales will also go to the event’s charities.

Co-chaired by the Hon. Hilary M. Weston and Salvatore Ferragamo, the Windsor Charity Polo Cup is recognized as the premier high-goal charity polo match of the Vero Beach season. Taking place on Saturday, February 19, 2022, on Windsor’s polo grounds, the event will feature a roster of top-level international players. Funds raised will benefit two local environmentally focused charities. Net proceeds will be divided equally between the Ocean Research & Conservation Association (ORCA) and the Environmental Learning Center (ELC).
